MARK 1 ESCORT MEXICO WORKS REPLICA RALLY CAR.
Built on behalf of a customer to compete in road rallies, this started as a rust free Ford Escort Mk1 Mexico road car. We were given a free reign to build him something that looked and went right, with the ability to cover large distances for events such as the Euro Classic.
The car was totally stripped, and steel bubble arches cut into the car with inner wings fabricated to suit, the body was also partially seam welded and strenghened in all the usual weak spots. The rear suspension is 4 linked, and has coilover turrets and an adjustable panhard rod.
With the fabrication done and roll cage fitted, the car was prepared and painted in Ford diamond white to a very high standard. Once painted the rebuild could begin.
The car was fitted with Wilwood brakes with a custom made adjustable pedal box, a quaife Torsen Differential in its English axle, and Bilstein dampers. The engine is a fabulous Vulcan built Pinto which pulls hard and makes a great noise with the twin Webers !
We fitted a twin pod works type dash with Racetech instruments (chosen for their visibilty at night), a Brantz trip meter and many other essential parts to make life as easy as feasible over long distance events. This meant a bespoke wiring loom, made on-site in the manner of the works cars where the engine bay loom runs along the top of the inner wings.
The interior was fitted with Recaro Pole Postion seats with Willans 3" harnesses, and trimmed in simple black carpet, again reflecting the car's need to be multi purpose.
With quick release Cibies and genuine Minilites to finish off the "rally look" it looks like it belongs in a Welsh Forest!
The car succesfully completed it's first road rally around Scotland as a faultless shake down event. The customer loves the way it looks and goes, and really loves the attention it gets!
